BRUNEL UNIVERSITY LONDON (BUL)

Brunel University London (BUL) is public research located in London established 1966. Within the BUL there are various research centres. Brunel Composites Centre (BCC) is affiliated with BUL and is located at TWI LTD in Granta Park, Cambridge. BCC is the technical coordinator of the JIDEP project.

BRUNEL UNIVERSITY LONDON (BUL)

BCC sits between the knowledge base and industry, supporting partners in industry to transfer academic research into industrial application. Some of the core areas that BCC focuses on includes but not limited to: composite joining without mechanical fastening, composite characterisation, novel processing of composites, and developing advanced out-of-autoclave tooling. One of the main technical deliverables that BCC is leading is the development of analytical tool for composite material structure in JIDEP project. BCC alongside the partners will model the manufacturing process unique to structure in the automotive case study. In this case, resin transfer molding (RTM) and composite monocoque. The simulations will
assess existing process efficiency and injection effectiveness within the deterministic data domain. Once verified, the model will be automated to use input parameters from the data available by the manufacturer to assess the probabilistic output of the process, offering reliable indices, and an opportunity to optimize the process based on input parameters sensitivity analysis. Data obtained can then be passed to the platform.
